About Dr. Chennankara

Dr. Steve Chennankara is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience treating adults, children, and adolescents across a wide range of settings—from medical hospitals to outpatient clinics. He specializes in adult and child psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and spiritually and culturally responsive care.

Dr. Chennankara currently practices at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Texas, where he provides psychiatric consultations for children and teens hospitalized with complex emotional and medical needs. He previously served at Baylor Scott & White Health in Temple, TX, where he trained and later joined the faculty, working with both pediatric and adult psychiatric populations.

As a medical educator, he is passionate about mentoring the next generation of physicians. In 2024, he dedicated over 800 hours to direct teaching and has presented nationally—including at the American Psychiatric Association—on spiritually and culturally informed care.

At the heart of Dr. Chennankara’s approach is the belief that true healing comes from empowerment, not dependency.
